Sentenced in absentia to jail Bahraini activist

The official Bahrain News Agency said the court ruled Monday jailed Bahraini human rights activist Maryam al-Khawaja in absentia to one year in the condemnation of the attack on the police officer.
Khawaja and arrested the director of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights in August when she returned from Europe and was released on bail pending trial on charges including assault and entering Bahrain illegally and insulting King Hamad.
He said the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the fifth of September that the detention of Khawaja Bahrain and other political activists is an authoritarian conduct and expressed concern that the arrest is linked to their work in promoting human rights.
The prison Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja and Mary's father - an activist in the defense of the Shiite majority in the Sunni-ruled kingdom rights - since 2011.
The news agency quoted Bahrain to Abdullah Al-Dosari Muharraq Governorate chief prosecutor as saying that the High Criminal Court convicted Khawaja charges of assaulting a police officer and the injuries at the Bahrain International Airport.
The news agency did not say if she had considered other accusations.
