ANHRI condemns the judgment of the appropriate criminalcourt, which sentences the reform activist “Talal Al Majid” for 15 years imprisonment due to charges of communication to the dissidents “Saad Al-Faqih”.
The appropriate Criminal Court has, at the beginning of the week, sentenced the reform activist “Talal Al Majid,” who is in prison for ten years, to 15 years imprisonment. He was accused of supporting reform leaders, in addition to the transfer of remittances from Gulf persons to “Faqih”, shooting the places of the foreigners. In addition to, writing a book about Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, despite the lack of evidences to prove receiving remittances. The Court relied on the confessions obtained by the security authorities via coercion and torture.
The lawyer and the activist Ahmed Rashid said that “the trial took place through eight hearings in the Criminal court, which does not consider any defenses in form but rely on the merits of the case. He added that he will receive the sentence provision on behalf of the client after a week. After that the appeal deadline begin, which lasts for 30 days, expressing his objection to the appeal system which does not allow to appear before the court again”.
In a related context the Saudi authorities arrested on Monday, October 2, Sheikh “Adel El-Faleh,” due to charges of “incitement to wear blue costume of the detainees”. As he wore the blue costume of the detainee in one of the sit-ins that took place in Saudi Arabia last weekend for solidarity with the detainees. That comes after the call spread on Twitter by some activists to wear this costume to denounce of not knowing anything about the arrests and trials taking place in the light of the media blackout.
The security forces also arrested “Nawaf Al-Ruwaili” due to brought speakers and standing in the Emirate of “Al-Jawf”, calling the expulsion of the U.S. ambassador.
ANHRI said that “The sentence issued of the reform activist “Talal Al Majid” is a continuation of the series of mock trials that are taking place in Saudi Arabia against and opposition activists, in an attempt by the authorities silence the opposition”.
ANHRI wondered “How someone could be sent to prison for ten years and more in some cases without trials?, all of these all contradicted with each applicable laws which require the appear of the accused person before trial within a period not exceeding 45 days”.
The network called for “the need to immediately release all the political and conscience prisoners in Saudi prisons or to appear before fair trials”.
