“Zienb El-Khawaja” sentenced to two months imprisonment due to destroying movables owned to the ministry of interior

ANHRI condemns the sentencing the Bahraini activist “Zienb El-Khawaja” for two months due to tearing the king’s picture.

The Minor Criminal Court sentenced the activist due to destroying movables owned by the ministry of interior, which is “the picture of the king Hamd bin Khalifa”. On August 2, 2012 she was arrested due to participation in a demonstration called “Self-determination”. The “Feburary 14” coalition called fro this demonstration, then was taken to a police station in which she was accused of destroying movables owned to it during her custody. During the investigations and trial the police station alleged that the police station have a video-tape condemns “Zienb” but after showing the vedio and during the court hearing it was declared that the video was taken while she was in the demonstration not in the police station. The matter that made its lawyer to exclude  the video, as it does not contain evidences that convict her. Nevertheless, the court 

sentences her for two month imprisonment
In a related context the court adjourned another case against her as she is accused of participation in an unlicensed marshes and entering a restricted area which is “Pearl Roundabout”. The activist faces 13 cases, 8 of them are being she was sentenced and some were adjourned, in addition to 5 cases in the public prosecution.
ANHRI said that “the sentence issued against the activist falls in the continues series of the malicious sentences issued recently against the activists and oppositions, which aims to silence the voices of the oppositions and infanticide the popular movement that took place in Bahrain to achieve political and social reforms in the country”.


ANHRI asserted that “the continuity to hostile all the activists and oppositions and harassing them by all means whether by arresting or prosecuting them will increase their determination to achieve their demands of reformations and democracy”.
ANHRI added “the total absence of any indication that the Bahraini authorities will change its suppressive policies against the exercises of its citizens who call for freedom of opinion and expression as well as their right in peaceful demonstration, make the responsibility of the world society is to interfere to press the regime to make sure that it complied with the obligations in accordance with the world and charters covenants of human rights”.
ANHRI called the Bahraini authorities to immediately release all the detainees of conscience and opinion in the Bahraini prisons and not legally prosecute them
