On May 31, 2011, the military court issued a decision to release the media specialist Reem Maged, the blogger Hussam Al Hamalawy and the journalistic writer Nabil Sharaf Al Din.
On May 30, 2011, the Military Prosecution Office called the media specialist Reem Maged, the blogger Hussam Al Hamalawy and the journalistic writer Nabil Sharaf Al Din to attend in the office in the next day for questioning on their statements on the screen of On TV satellite channel. The military prosecutor general said that they gave offensive statements against the Supreme Military Council and the Military Police.
The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) appreciates the release decision and in the same time it expresses its worry for the contentious restriction of the freedom of expression, which is one of the most significant safeguards of democracy in Egypt after the revolution. Those media specialists were expressing their free right according to the international covenants of human rights.
In this regard, EOHR calls the Supreme Military Council to stop referring civilian the Military Prosecution Office and the Military Courts, and also to stop questioning media specialists on issues related to the right of expression, according to International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Egyptian constitutional declaration that included articles stress on the right of expression.
