Tehran announced that it would launch a satellite this weekend, highlighting a program that the United States says is a front for developing ballistic missiles.
"We do not fear failure and we will not lose hope. With your prayers and your trust in God, by the end of this week, the satellite of Zafar will be heading towards an orbit 530 kilometers from Earth," wrote Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azri-Jahrami in a tweet on Twitter.
The United States fears the long-range ballistic technology used to put satellites into its orbit may be used to launch nuclear warheads.
Tehran denies that satellite activity is a cover for missile development, stressing that it has halted the development of nuclear weapons.
Iran launched its first "Umid" (Hope) satellite in 2009, and then the "Rasad" satellite in June 2011.
In 2012, Tehran said it had successfully brought its third home-made "Nafez" satellite into orbit.
